Ms Faizah Haji Masud

BSC (Human Development) (University of Agriculture Malaysia), MSW (Applied) (Massey University)

Profile:

I am a full-time PhD student on study leave from Malaysian Government.  I came to Perth in June 2005.  Before coming to Perth, I was teaching at University Malaysia Sarawak in Malaysia.

Research Interests:

As a research student, I am now working on Malaysian social policy development in particular the Child Act 2001 as a case study.  This legal document will be the medium to analyse whether the legislation as a public policy has or will meet the needs of Malaysian multi-ethnic society.  Other areas of interest include: Indigenous social policy; child welfare and the rights of children; poverty in developing countries; social development; and universalism versus indigenisation.

Research:

Promoting Behavioural Changes in the Control of Dengue in Malaysia (06-05-01-0067)-in collaboration with Sarawak Health Department and IMR (Institute for Medical Research). Based on participatory action research (PAR).  Studying the community in their natural setting with direct observation, informal interviews and survey.  Workshops with the villagers are used as a medium in making sure participants are in control of their decisions and actions taken to prevent dengue outbreak.
