Qualifications:
BA (UWA), BSW (UWA)
Profile:I work as a Clinical Social Worker with the Department for Community Development (DCD), on the Psychology Assessment and Treatment Services (PATS) team. My work involves responding to families where children and young people have suffered abuse or neglect, assisting them to reduce or overcome the impact of these experiences, and where possible, to develop and demonstrate sufficient signs of responsibility to warrant either the preservation of families; or if children are already in out-of-home care, their return home. Prior to working in PATS, I worked as a Team Leader (a management position) in DCD, and relationship counsellor with Relationships Australia in Darwin.
Research Interests:
I am working on my PhD part-time, exploring the effects of using social constructionist ideas in a statutory child protection agency. Areas of interest include: helping people tell stories about their lives that make them stronger; exploring the impact of social context on people's lives; the ritualistic and social processes used by people use to make sense of life experience; researching and documenting responses to human problems that are just and effective; exploring ways of enabling people to resolve issues for themselves; and archiving stories of well lived lives.
