Teaching Interests:
Coordinator for Postgraduate Studies. Teaching responsibilities in Ethics, Organisational Theory as a context for practice, Mental Health.
Research Interests:
Child and family welfare, family violence, Governance in the not for profit sector, lay leadership in faith communities, mental health, privatisation/contracting, professional values and ethics, service evaluation.
Profile:
Maria is an ASPRO and has worked in the Discipline at this university for nineteen years. She has worked in mental health, child protection and various health and crisis services. She now maintains her commitment to practice by working with a number of non-government community organisations. Maria is Chairperson of Mercy Inc. in WA and was Chairperson of CBERRS (Christian Brothers Ex-Resident and Student Services). She is a Post-President and a member of the Board of the Mental Illness Fellowship of WA, and is on the Advisory Board of the Edmund Rice Centre in WA. She was previously an Elected Councillor with the City of Subiaco in Western Australia. Some of the other positions she has held are President of the Western Australian Council of Social Services (WACOSS), the Australian Association of Social Workers WA Branch (AASW) and the Advisory and Coordinating Committee on Child Abuse (ACCCA).
